- OLD TOWN APARTMENTS

- For now, the main form of public transportation within the city of Florence is the bus, though there is a tram network currently under construction. Bus tickets are available for purchase at local tobacco and newspaper shops, and even some bars and street stalls.
- The central train station is called Santa Maria Novella, and is situated approximately 500 metres northwest of the Piazza del Duomo. Another large train station in town is Campo Di Marte, but you might not ever encounter it. Transportation in and around Florence and throughout Europe is available via train, as well as by long-distance bus.
- Amerigo Vespucci Airport is five kilometres from the city centre. An important thing to know is that the centre of Florence is closed to auto traffic except for buses, taxis and permit-bearing locals. The good news is that most places within the city can quickly be reached on foot.
- Taxis in Florence are white, and can easily be found throughout the city at designated areas usually located around the major piazzas. Taxis can be especially convenient here, because they can gain access to many streets which are normally closed to normal traffic. However, they’re a good deal more expensive than public transportation is, and there can sometimes be extra charges for luggage or late-night trips. These charges are regulated by the Council of Florence and a matter of public record, so you needn’t fear getting ripped off.
