Budapest Ferihegy Airport is approximately 25KM southeast of the city centre. You will have different options for transport into the city. Many of our partners offer pick up service for a fixed fee and comes highly recommended.
Taxis can be hired directly from the airport outside at the taxi stand, however their fares can be unregulated; guests should make sure that the taxi meter is on or, if there is no meter in the taxi, we recommend guests to negotiate a fare before leaving the airport.
Bus: An Airport Minibus service is available and will take guests to any address in Budapest. (tel: (0)1 296 8555) The Airport Minibus desk is located in the Arrivals hall and take reservations and sell minibus tickets. A local express bus no.93 runs between the underground metro station, Köbánya-Kispest, and the airport terminals.
Transportation from the train stations
Budapest has 3 train stations that almost all international and domestic trains arrive and depart. Reaching the city centre of Budapest is possible using the Metro system or the railbus system. Call (36.1) 353.2722) for more information.
Gettig Around in Buadpest
Budapest has a fantastic public transportation system. Choose from a wide variety of buses, trolley buses, trams and underground trains (Metro). Within all of Budapest you are never more than 300-400 meters away from a station or stop. Although there are select night buses and trams, the normal day routes run from 4:30 am to 11pm.
Tickets must be purchased in advance from the terminal, metro stations, news agents or kiosks. Upon entering your means of transport, the tickets must be validated immediately using the red validator box. Children under 6 ride for free if accompanied by an adult. Travelling without tickets is extremely risky. Budapest officials are performing random checks more than ever.
Tickets are available for all purposes. Single tickets allow riders to take one line without transfer. One day tickets and 3 day tickets enjoy unlimited riding and transfers. For extended stays, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly passes are available. You will need to provide a passport photo for an ID card which must accompany these extended stay passes.
The Metro consists of 3 main lines and 1 suburban line. The M1(yellow line), M2(red line) and M3(blue line). These three lines were startegically built to help you cover most of Budapest. You can honestly be across town in a matter of minutes. The fourth line is the HEV railway and this line runs to the northern suburbs.
Taxi service is always the quickest means of transportation in any city. However it is also a pricey way to travel. Many of our landlords in Budapest will be happy to recommend reliable and trustworthy companies for you to use.
